Church members

I sent Ben and the girls to Monkey Joe's for the afternoon, so I have some time to catch up. Today we finally joined St. Boniface catholic church in Waukee. We have been going there sporadically in the 2 years that we have lived here, but never have joined. It is finally time to make that commitment for our girls to be raised going to church and to start Sunday school when old enough. What better time to join then during the first Sunday of Lent. Our priest said to do something for Lent that we could continue after Lent, and this is what I have decided is the best is to make sure I get my kids to church and become involved.

Ears pierced

Yesterday Emma decided she wanted her ears pierced. So Ben and I decided to let her. We went to the mall to have lunch then went to the store to get it done. There was a 6 month old little girl was having her ears pierced and really screamed and cried when it was done. This made Emma not want to get it done, but I ended up talking her into getting it done. She did not scream, but she had tears and wanted to take them out as soon as it was done. It took about an hour for her to be happy she did it. She is now excited for the 8 weeks is up so she can go buy new ones to put in she saw a ton of earrings she wanted to get while we were waiting yesterday!

Winter is back!!

Tonight we are getting some snow and we have went back to the cold weather we know for Feb in Iowa. During the warm weather the girls were very confused. They both asked if we could go to Marks to swim and they wanted to go camping. Little too early for both of those, but summer will be here before we know it.
Last week I stayed up until midnight to sign the girls up for swim lessons at the YMCA. I signed them up for both spring sessions, so hopefully they are ready for lots of swimming this summer. I will also be signing them up for summer swim lessons at Glen Oaks. With all the time we spend in the water in the summer I believe they need to be good swimmers.
Last night Ben and I went to a meeting at Van Meter school for Kindergarden. This makes the reality of Emma going to Kindergarden in the fall much too real for me. They welcomed the parents of the class of 2024! Wow, we certainly did not need to hear that. As sad as I will be to send her to school for the first time, this meeting really made me happy with our decision to send her to a small school. They are more like a family and the older kids look out for the little ones. I am very excited to become active in the school and meeting more members of the community! We also met a parent last night who open enrolls from Waukee. If the gas prices get much higher we may have to talk to her about car pooling :) The 1 thing that shocked me was that the first day of school is on August 15, this just makes our summer so much shorter and she has to start school during my beloved Iowa State Fair. I guess we will have to cram a couple visits to the fair before the first day of school!

Getting ready for warm weather!

Well vacation is almost here seems like we have been planning this trip forever! Ben is leaving tomorrow morning and of course is still not packed, nothing new...the girls and I have been packed for several weeks. I am of course very nervous about flying with both girls by myself especially since I had what seemed like a great idea to not check our bags. Now I am thinking that might have been kind of a crazy plan!
On a good note I went to the mall today and got a manicure and pedicure. I took the girls with me which may have made the experience a little less relaxing than going by myself. They were good though so I can't complain.

Today Emma asked who will be watching our cat Milo while we are gone. I told her that Mitchell will be. She said " does he even like cats? Does he like bitty babies? We need to call him to make sure." so I guess Mitchell will also be watching the baby dolls as well as the cat! It is amazing what my 4 year old comes up with these days...or as she would correct me, my 4 1/2 year old!

Friends

Yesterday we went to the science center with some new friends. Christia and her boys Julian who is in emma's preschool class, Gabe who is in Bella's class and her little one Owen. The kids had fun exploring for a couple hours. Their favorite part was the bubbles and the rockets.

Poop in the pool

So what a better way to spend a very cold Iowa winter day than swimming, or at least we thought it was a good idea.....we put our swimsuits on and of course our several layers over the top of the swim suits and headed for the local YMCA for some afternoon swimming today. We were in the pool enjoying Emma and Bella swimming in the deep end with their noodles and swim jackets when the lifeguards started blowing their whistles to get out of the pool. This of course worried me because in all the times we have swam there we have not had to get out of the pool until we were ready. So after we got out and wrapped up in our towels we noticed the young lifeguards putting on the rubber gloves and getting the skimmers out. And what to our wondering eyes should appear was POOP! One lifeguard states "there is so much this is going to take forever!" and that it did, we went into the other pool which was much too cold for our taste so decided to go. In the time we swam in the big pool got a 3 and 4 year old out of swimsuits and Ben and I changed out of our suits (which all this takes a long time) they were still cleaning the pool! What a day, I don't think we will be swimming for a while. And just to note the incident was in the shallow end and we were in the deep end so at least we were on the opposite side of the pool from the poop :)

Snow day

Today we are getting a large amount of snow so we had to stay in. Except me of course, I have shoveled the driveway 2 times already and have at least 1 more time to go. The girls and I made 3 batches of pumpkin bread. The girls had a fun time licking the bowl and Emma got to try her hand at cracking an egg. Now as I am writing this the girls are running around in their underwear because they wanted to pretend they were dinosaurs from their book dinosaurs love underpants. They also used the video camera to try and make videos of them singing today, but Emma needs to work on her filming technique.

Birthday party

Today I took Emma to a birthday party for her friend Jadah from preschool. Many games were played, cake and ice cream, and presents. Emma was very shy at first then she gradually warmed up. By the time we left Emma was hugging Jadah and telling her bye. So cute!
Ben took Bella to the YMCA for some swimming while Emma and I were at the party. Bell a swam on her own with her life vest and a swim noodle. I think she is going to be ready to swim on vacation.

Finally found iPad app to blog

Yeah! I now have my blog linked to my iPad so hopefully I can catch up on my blogging. The girls and I had a fun week resuming activities after being on winter break. We also went swimming at the YMCA so they can get use to the water before vacation in 2 weeks. Emma got her costume for her dance recital in May and was very excited. I just hope Bella's comes in soon.

A funny quote this week is that Emma asked me to make sure I am awake before she gets up in the morning because she does not like having to wake me up. Not that there are too many mornings I am not up before her. Just wait til you are a teen Emma I will be waking you up early just for fun then yo will regret saying this!
